Singtel (Optus) buys 3D Ad Startup, AdJitsu

As some background to this latest acquisition, Singtel only just recently acquired Mobile advertising company Amobee a few months ago.  Singtel is the parent company of Australia’s telco Optus, and Allen Lew, CEO of Optus’ Digital Life division said of the acquisition that it would allow Singtel to become a “significant mobile marketing entity”.

Singtel has now built on that initial acquisition with a further investment in ad startup AdJitsu, a specialist in 3D advertising technologies that let users “touch” objects in ads and explore them.  According to Amobee, AdJitsu’s technology allows the creation of  highly engaging and differentiated 3D mobile ad units.  The acquisition gives Amobee’s customers the ability to transform existing 2D ad assets into interactive 3D campaigns.

What this means for Australian customers we can only speculate, however it seems likely we will see a push from Optus to encourage advertisers to trial 3D campaigns on their networks.

When Singtel acquired Amobee in March, Allen Lew was quoted saying that he believed the market for mobile marketing is poised for a revolution.  With this latest acquisition, it seems Singtel’s revolution may be in 3D!
